Twaweza

Swahili — “We Can Do It”

We believe in the power of young people to overcome challenges, support each other, and create change. Twaweza is a youth-centred programme designed to build resilience, mental wellness, leadership skills, and community support for young people navigating life's challenges.

The Challenge

Why Twaweza?

Growing up is not easy. Young people today carry real pressures — the weight of academic demands, the complexity of family life, questions about who they are, and the emotional highs and lows that come with it all. Sometimes those pressures become too much to carry alone. Twaweza exists to make sure they never have to. We create safe, honest spaces where young people aged 15 to 30 can find community, build strength, and discover that they have what it takes to move forward.

Programme Pillars

What We Offer

Four interconnected pillars designed to meet young people where they are, providing mental wellness, leadership, crisis support, and mentorship.

01

Mental Health and Well-Being Support

We prioritise mental health by creating spaces where young people can express themselves and access the support they need:

  • Peer Support Circles - safe spaces for young people to talk, share, and heal together
  • Art and Expression Therapy - using music, writing, and visual arts for emotional release
  • Mindfulness and Self-Care - practical tools for managing stress and regulating emotions
02

Leadership and Life Skills Training

Twaweza equips young people with the skills to lead with confidence and navigate life on their own terms:

  • Youth Leadership Workshops - building confidence, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Community Impact Projects - encouraging youth to take ownership of social change in their communities

Young people are not just the future. They are the present. And they deserve support right now.

03

Crisis Support and Mental Health Awareness

Compassionate, immediate support for young people going through a hard time - because asking for help is a sign of strength:

  • Crisis Helpline - immediate, confidential support for youth in emotional distress
  • Mental Health Awareness - equipping young people to recognise when they or a peer may need support
  • One-on-One Counselling - free, confidential therapy sessions with trained professionals
04

Youth Mentorship Programme

The Twaweza Fellowship connects young people with mentors who offer guidance, encouragement, and lived experience:

  • Empowering Stories and Role Models - real stories of young people who found their footing after difficult times
  • Peer-to-Peer Mentorship - building a strong, caring support system within the youth community
