Evidence-Based Approaches We Use
CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Identifies and reshapes negative thought patterns linked to emotional distress and suicidal thinking.

DBT

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Builds emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.

TIC

Trauma-Informed Care

Recognises the impact of past trauma and creates a safe, empowering therapeutic environment.

SE

Somatic Experiencing

A body-centred approach that helps clients release stored trauma by tracking physical sensations, supporting nervous system regulation and healing.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

Uses guided eye movements to help the brain reprocess distressing memories, reducing their emotional charge and impact.

Community Support

Healing Happens in Community

Sometimes the most powerful support comes not from a professional, but from someone who has lived through the same pain. Our peer support groups bring together people with shared experiences in a confidential, facilitated space where no one has to explain themselves.

We know it takes courage to come to a group.

You won't have to talk if you don't want to — many people don't, particularly the first time. You don't have to come again, and you don't even have to stay for the whole session if you decide it's not for you. But most people return after their first meeting and, over time, find the confidence to speak about themselves — and eventually to offer support to others. If you come and decide it's not the right moment, you are always welcome to return when you feel ready.

Benefits of Joining a Support Group

Our peer-led groups provide a sense of belonging and shared understanding that is difficult to find elsewhere.

Safety

Participants tell us they feel safe in the group. They are free to express themselves with others who are also grieving as a result of suicide.

Coping

We support each other to cope with the pain, hurt, and loss of a loved one. Everyone who has taken part has said they would recommend the group to others.

Respect

Participants sense the respect as they share their grief. Even when sharing things they may never have said out loud before, the atmosphere is non-judgmental and supportive.

Understanding

People grieving a suicide loss experience loneliness, rejection, guilt, and shame. The group provides an environment of understanding, even when family and friends cannot.
